Joe & Tell

If there’s one trend that seems to come back each Fall and Winter, it’s plaid. But plaid has a cousin and that cousin is buffalo check!  What’s not to love about either pattern when it shows so well in red and black?

So, here is my version of the classic show and tell using the items from Joe Fresh (Superstore or Loblaws).  They are completed stocked full with options (let’s call it updated plaid) and here is what I found in store last week:

These adorable slip on booties/slippers for babies and toddlers.  How cute!

This dress would look great with black tights or leggings and booties, wouldn’t it?

And if you didn’t wan to wear red and black plaid, you could carry it!

This bomber style jacket would be a fun way to add a little colour and style while keeping warm.

Lastly, these duck boots were under $50 and were very warm and comfortable.  I probably wouldn’t wear them in the rain, but they would be great for cold weather.

I have to admit I didn’t buy a thing!  But I could always go back for that tote and maybe the dress…and….more!

Joe & Tell

Another week and more groceries. Which means another browse around the Joe women’s clothing section at Superstore.

The department was packed with so many great things that I couldn’t just limit myself to one item this time.

So what did I find?

These booties came in both black and chestnut.  Wouldn’t they look great with boyfriend or skinny jeans?  The downside?  They are not leather, but they are only $39.

I ❤️ slip ons and this pair did not disappoint.  They were only $34!  It’s hard to tell but they are navy blue with little white flecks.  Could easily wear these with boyfriend or skinny jeans all season long.

Lastly…

Cigarette pants!  I noticed these while I was in France this summer and wrote about them here.  I apologize for the lighting – the fluorescent lights at Superstore don’t really lend themselves to great photos!  These pants are more straight than skinny and hit right about at the ankle.  A nice change from the everyday skinny jeans and only $34.

Could you see any of these items in your Fall wardrobe?  Let me know in the comments.

And that’s it for this week’s edition of Joe & Tell!

Joe & Tell

Most of the kids I know like show and tell.  What’s not to like about taking your favourite toy or book to school and telling everyone all about it?

So, with back to school upon us, I’m reminded of this tradition and thought I would start a show and tell of my own.

I frequently buy my groceries at Superstore and the good thing about that is….they also sell clothes, household goods and fun things. It’s not Target, but it’s the closest thing we’ve got!

Their house brand of clothing is called Joe Fresh and its carried in stores throughout Canada.  JC Penney used to carry the brand and there was a store in NYC, but it appears you can only order online in the US as of now. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thus, after today’s shop, Joe & Tell was born!  I’ll try and make this a regular feature and show you something on trend that I think you might like.

Today’s find is this olive green utility jacket.  It’s only $49 and only available in this colour.   I usually wear a small, but this small was still a little big, so I recommend sizing down.

This jacket style is still on trend.  It is such a great piece to wear now and transition into Fall.

What do you think?  Could you see this jacket in your Fall wardrobe? Please let me know in the comments!

New Year, New Clothes

The kids are back in school, I’ve semi-cleaned the house and needed groceries, so I headed to Superstore (Loblaws for those of you back East).  Problem is, that when you go to Superstore, you see Joe Fresh fashions right when you walk in the door.

Now, I don’t always buy from Joe Fresh, but I have been known to pick up the odd top, sweater, tank at a very good price point.  It isn’t always the best or will be a piece that you have for a long time, but Joe Fresh is usually  always on point for fashion trends and colours.

I have to admit I was surprised that the store was already full of fresh fashions for late Winter/early Spring.

Here’s a little peek at what I saw:

These shoes were under $20.  I tried them on.  They were not uncomfortable and would be a cute little flat to add a little camo to your day.

This top is part sweater, part sweatshirt.  I tried it on and it fit a little unconstructed which seems to be in style right now.  It was only $9.94 and in one of my fav colours…grey!

Ok, so if you don’t like grey, this red and black in the classic buffalo check would do nicely. I’m thinking it would be cute for the holiday season 2016.

Umm…these pants.  Part jogger, part sweatpants wanna be.  Either way, they were comfy and so well priced.  Picture them with a black of white top, a cute hoodie and fun runners (tennis shoes for you South of the border).

Bathings suits are here!!  Mix and match tops and bottoms while they still have your size.  All pieces around $20.

In case you don’t like the turquoise blue, there is navy and orange just around the corner.  Again, easy to wear and mix and match.

I saw orange and navy from the minute I hit this section.  Based on this, I’m guessing orange is a must have colour for Spring.

Softer shades of orange, floral and pink/peach all say Spring to me.

Before Winter is over, you might want to grab a pair of these Sorel look alike boots.  Reg $69 on sale for $59 and some styles were less.  I tried them on and they fit well!

Not a fashion item, but still a new item to me.  Natural soap made in Canada for only $1.25 per bar.  If you are trying to add more natural products to your daily regime, try this soap in one of the many flavours.

I am feeling a little more inspired with my wardrobe now and I’m looking forward to the sales and Spring fashions to come over the next month!

Friday’s Fun Finds

When you just pop in to grab a few groceries, you don’t always expect to find fun clothes and cool home accessories.  But that is what happens when you go to Superstore or Loblaw’s as it is known back East.  When these stores started selling Joe Fresh  alongside the fruit and veggies, the grocery shopping game changed.

Here’s what I found last week:

My kids love chips and salsa and veggies with dip.  These little bowls would be the perfect solution for snack time.

IMG_1684

My love of all things plaid and a cabin in the woods is summed up with this great basket and it was less than $20!

IMG_1682

The chevron print on this glass water bottle caught my eye and it’s such a cool looking bottle it might inspire everyone to drink more water.

IMG_1685

This jacket was in the athletic section and was just the prettiest shade of purple and mauve.  I’ve bought some of their workout gear before and the quality is pretty good for the price.

IMG_1681

Of course this grey puffer coat caught my eye. I bought the grey puffer vest and love it!

IMG_1680

Lastly, this guy came home with me, along with my groceries.  Isn’t that why I originally went to Superstore?

Have a great Fall weekend!

Grey for Fall, Fall for Grey

It’s that time of year again!  The kids are back in school, the weather is getting a little bit cooler and I’m thinking of grey clothes. Yes, I have barely worn a stitch of grey over the past few months and I’m starting to get itchy to pull out some of my Fall grey favourites.

With the kids being out of school for the past two months, I didn’t have a lot of time to hit the shops.  But I managed a night away in the States with my husband and a girls’ trip to Whistler.  During these short trips, I was perusing the new Fall fashions every chance I got.  And what did I see?  Shades of grey – everywhere!

Of course, I couldn’t resist taking a few photos to show you this neutral that has had serious staying power for the past few years.

First up:

Oh Canada….family fashion

I know that Canada Day was so last week, but thought I would show you what I wore.  Please keep in mind that Canadians are pretty casual and low key compared to Americans when it comes to our country’s birthday.  It’s not that we don’t celebrate it, but we just don’t celebrate it like the Americans and sometimes I think we could take a page or two from their holiday celebration book 😉

We went out for dinner on July 1st and I overheard an American family remark that we were wearing Canadian shirts.  Besides another couple a few tables away, we were the only other ones dressed for the holiday.

Lastly, the men in my life wore Canada shirts from Old Navy and Joe Fresh

What did you wear to celebrate your holiday?  Hope it was a great day!!

No Grey Challenge #3

The No Grey Challenge #3 started on April 1st and I pretty much failed the whole first week.  Since then, I think I have done very well.   Aside from not posting enough of my daily outfits, I have been refraining from wearing grey.

Here is a quick roundup of me and my wardrobe over the past couple of weeks:

IMG_8634
Black tee, Flying Monkey jeans, Favourite Animal Print Slip Ons and Cargo style jacket from Gap

I think the Gap cargo jacket might have to go.  The proportions just don’t look right on me and the jacket feels a little short. What do you think?

IMG_8643
Denim shirt from Aritzia/TNA and my new fav camo pants from Gap Factory.

I saw someone wearing denim and camo and I thought it looked cute.  I think I look a little frumpy in this outfit.  The denim shirt is a boyfriend style and perhaps I could use a more fitted version.

IMG_8656
Boyfriend cardigan from Old Navy, soft pink and white striped tee from Joe Fresh, Flying Monkey jeans and good ole Converse.

I felt pretty good the day I wore this outfit.  It was sunny outside, the pink striped tee is new and was easy to wear.

IMG_8532
Grey, yes a grey long sleeved animal print shirt by Splendid.

This  grey top that has slipped into my outfit as it was a little chilly out and I just wanted to wear it!    My first week of the challenge had a few fails, but I’ve done no grey since then. That’s pretty good, isn’t it?

The challenge for me officially ended on May 20th – yesterday.  I have put all my long sleeved grey tops and sweaters away for the Spring and Summer months, but I will start wearing my short sleeved grey tops and cardigans now that my challenge is over.  I’m hoping to keep from wearing grey all day every day, so wish me luck (and maybe a few new tops to wear) !

It’s Everywhere!

Plaid.  It’s everywhere and I love it!

Maybe it’s my Irish/English/Scottish heritage that draws me to it.   Maybe it signifies Fall, warm clothes and coziness.   Maybe it’s because it is being featured everywhere in magazines and lifestyle TV for both your wardrobe and your home.

I’m not sure exactly what it is, but this year I am especially loving plaid. So much so, that I just bought this:

IMG_5747

and this:

IMG_5774

Both of these items are from Superstore – Joe Fresh.  The shirt fits great and surprise, it’s not grey!  Ok, well, there is a little grey stripe in the pattern, but it’s not entirely grey.  What surprised me was they were both predominantly red, which is so unlike me!

I wanted to use some plaid in the house to make things feel like Fall and I saw this sheet set, also at Superstore:

IMG_6771

They werent quite the right colours, so I didn’t buy it.  But I’m on the hunt for a plaid blanket for the family room in greys and blues – wish me luck.

Lastly, this is a bold move, but I saw this wallpaper and thought how fun would this be in a powder room or a rustic cottage bathroom:

So that’s my plaid update this week.   Hope you have put some plaid into your life, too!

What I wore…

Every Most Wednesdays, I like to link up with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Since I am a stay at home mom, it is easy to get lazy and this is a good way to keep me in check and make sure I look presentable (at least a few times a week).

It is hard to believe, but two weeks ago in Vancouver it was warm, but raining, pouring, so I wore this:

IMG_3664

Tshirt and hoodie from Joe Fresh at Superstore, my fav and best investment Hunter boots, and Lucky jeans.

So, now it’s the second week of July and the temperature is great. Mid-twenties (around 78 F for our American readers). But I have very little to wear 😦

This was probably my best outfit of the week, and that isn’t saying much:

IMG_3802

Every year I do this to myself. I wait until the weather is great and then I start to shop for summer clothes. Wrong strategy! By the time I think I need dresses, skirts and shorts, the stores have little inventory and the online selection isn’t much better.

My kids were in camp this week and each day at drop off, I saw the well known editor of an online style magazine also dropping off her children. She looked effortlessly put together each day. Tunic style dresses, gladiator sandals, striped denim, scarves, etc. All simple, but well chosen. I dressed simply, too. Mainly shorts and a wrinkled t-shirt. That was just how my mornings were going. I noticed the editor looking at me each day; maybe she thought she knew me, or maybe she wondered why I looked the way I did.

Today at drop off, she didn’t look my way. Maybe she was in a hurry, or maybe she had seen enough during the week…
