French Dressing for Fall

Bonjour!

Just last week I stopped into Marshalls and was surprised to find a high end designer promotion in store.  It was called the Red Carpet Event and it was showcasing all the top brands.  Of course, after my summer vacation I’ve still got French style on the brain, so I got a little caught up in finding all the French designers featured.

Here are a few things that I found:

Let’s start off with this Louis Vuitton wallet.  Darling, isn’t it?  It was priced around $199 which I thought was a relatively fair price for this piece. I have seen other designer wallets (Kate Spade and Coach) for similar prices, so this was inline with those brands.

Next up was this Givenchy bag.  Isn’t it beautiful?  Yes, it’s expensive, but I’m guessing it is probably less than if you had purchased it at Nordstrom or Givenchy themselves.  I’m not sure who would pay that much for a bag at Marshalls, but in case you are looking…

I would probably save this colour for Spring, but it is such a beautiful bag I might just carry it all year.

I had heard of Lanvin, but I wasn’t too familiar with the actual brand.  This is one of the first high fashion houses of France and it was founded way back in 1889!  This black quilted bag is such a classic and it’s a piece you could have for years and years.  I can’t remember the price, but I think it was about the same as the Givenchy bag above.

The Saint Laurent items also carried a hefty price tag. Those cute little booties are $700 and the bag was close to $2,000.  Wow.  I’m always surprised when Marshalls has such high priced items, but those for are looking….

A little lower down the price chain and you will find these Aigle boots.  Angle means eagle in French and these little rain booties would be a great addition to your closet for those rainy days.  As you will see they had a floral pattern, a leaf pattern and plain beige all for under $100.

Still in the shoe department I found these:

These animal print slip ons were over $500 and wouldn’t they pair well with your new Givenchy bag 😉

Oh, and if you have a really big budget, you might like these Celine flats in your closet:

A few rows over, but still in the shoe department and I found this pair:

I unfortunately forgot the name (oops), but they were a French brand.  Albeit a lower priced one as these brogues were only $70.  These could be fun with jeans or cigarette pants to dress up an outfit.  The blue colour was so rich and that bit of metal really caught my eye.

French dressing wouldn’t be complete without a hat or pair of sunglasses, so I found these:

The hat and glasses were all under $50 and by French brands.  Great accessories to add some French flavour to any outfit.

Lastly, the scent of a woman (did you ever see that movie?)…Ooh ahh!

Four different fragrances of Chloe all for $50.

With all these lovelies, you too can dress en française for Fall 🍁

C’est bon!

If the sandal fits…

My need for shoes has not stopped. Yes, I’m going on a trip and I’ll need some sandals, but it’s also the season of sandals.

So, I’ve been out shopping and this is what I’ve found:

I was excited to try this pair on.  They have a thicker sole and are made of leather, but they were totally uncomfortable. The heel area is slightly moulded and my foot didn’t fit the mould.  #sosad

My local Marshall’s had Kate Spade for under $100.  Sure, they have a little bling, but they are KATE SPADE!!  I didn’t buy them, but a few other women had them in their carts.

IMG_4657

Also at Marshall’s was this pair. Fringe is totally on trend right now.  Not sure how I feel about this sandal, but I’m guessing it was pretty popular at Coachella.  #justsaying

IMG_4658

If you have plenty of time to put this shoe on, then the gladiator sandal is the one for you.  Strap it and wrap it.  This particular brand was unfamiliar to me, but it had a soft flexible sole and would probably be fairly comfortable for strolling around.  #cutebutnotforme

IMG_4659

Now, I have to ask, but who would buy a Valentino at Marshall’s?  Second question, who would pay $800 for a sandal at Marshall’s?  I get that it’s the place for designers at a better price, but if I had $800 for shoes, I wouldn’t be buying sandals at Marshall’s.  Would you?

This is the pair I bought at DSW back in February.  They are pretty comfortable and that colour goes with everything.

My newest purchase is this pair of Matt and Nat sandals.  They are flexible, the sole has a slight cushion and since they are ec0-friendly and vegan, they are pretty easy to wear.  I haven’t ventured too far in them, so not sure if they are comfortable enough to make it on my trip.  #butyouneverknow

Have you found any summer sandals yet?  I’m always looking, so feel free to share any finds with me.

Just 2 things

You know those days when you put on your clothes and you’re feeling blah?  The clothes look fine (or maybe they don’t), but you just aren’t feeling it?

Then there are the days where you feel like you have kicked it up a notch (thanks, Emeril). You know those days, right?

Well, there are two pieces in my wardrobe that make me feel pretty good or even cool when I wear them.  It’s my faux leather jacket and my animal print slip ons.

A couple of years ago, I was shopping with friends and they were hot on buying a leather or faux leather jacket.  I didn’t realize they were back in style. Not surprising as I am usually late to any fashion party 😉   When I saw the moto style jacket on them, I thought hmmm, maybe this is a trend I should jump on. So, I jumped and found myself this faux moto style jacket at Winners (the Canadian version of Marshalls).  I honestly wasn’t sure how often I would wear it, so I thought I’d test the waters before I invested the big bucks into a real leather jacket.  It was less than $50, so how could I refuse it?  Here we are two years later and I still have it.  I don’t wear it a lot, but when I do?  I feel pretty darn good in it.

My second feel good item?  The animal print shoes.  They are another purchase from Winners.  Steve Madden has made these easy to wear, comfortable and fashionable shoes and I absolutely love them.  They might just be my favourite pair.

It’s hard to believe that just these two pieces can change how I feel.  Do you have something in your closet that you absolutely love?  I’m curious to know what it is.

Of All Places!

So I’m wandering aimlessly through my local Marshalls…after having wandered aimlessly through my local Home Goods when I saw this

So funny to see a shirt representing my hometown hockey team in my current city that doesn’t even have an NHL team.

But not so funny that I had to have it.

Not so ugly Christmas sweaters

What do you think of Christmas sweaters?  Have you seen these on Amazon?

While I am the first to admit that pictures of families in ugly Christmas sweaters are funny, I rarely see anyone showing off some cute holiday sweaters.  Until now, that is.

Look what I found at Marshall’s!

These are the not so ugly Christmas sweaters that most of us could wear and feel festive.  My daughter loved the one with the dog and my fav is the Christmas tree. Any surprise it’s grey? 😉   And they are all under $40 – not bad, eh?

There really is a Christmas sweater for everyone , isn’t there?

Pinned & Tried

Hello!

Long time, no post!  I have just returned from sunny Mexico!

This was my view every morning!  Nothing grey about this holiday at all.  Not the weather, nor the clothes!

IMG_3518

Before my trip, I was out shopping at Marshall’s with friends one evening when I stumbled across a very cool, yet simply styled moto jacket for $69.99!  Unfortunately, it wasn’t my size, but it was my friend’s size.  As much as she felt guilty about the purchase, she went home with the jacket.  I decided then and there that I really wanted a moto jacket, so I went home and started pinning.

These two pictures caught my attention; the first one showing how to dress up the moto and the second one is a more casual look.

Before my trip, I took a quick trip to Winners and found my own moto jacket!  It was a very simple style and only $29.99!   Before I knew it, we were through the check out stand and the jacket was mine!  I hung it up and pretty much forgot about it until I returned from vacation.

The day after we returned home, I was headed out for dinner with friends and I knew I wanted to wear my moto jacket.  I didn’t know exactly how to wear it, so I re-created the Pinterest image from above.

IMG_5963

This was an easy look to put together.  The top was a Macy’s find last Fall, dark skinny jeans, Geox booties and my new moto!  Love my new jacket and can’t wait to wear it more.  If you have any other ideas on how to wear it, let me know!

I count this as a successful Pinned & Tried!

Fashion fatigue ?

My style of last week was no style at all and I looked like I was going to work out every day (which I didn’t). Seriously though, Monday through Thursday I had such a hard time getting motivated to put any effort into getting dressed. I’m not sure why, but I guess I was feeling fashion fatigue?

I blame Lululemon.  They have been in the news a lot recently, but for years, I have had a love/hate relationship with them.  I guess last week, we were on good terms since I wore my Lululemon Studio Crop pants every day, albeit with a different t-shirt, but the look was pretty much the same.  Boring, yet comfortable.

20130613-110036.jpg

This week, I am making an effort and I think it is paying off.

20130613-105900.jpg
I love my new coloured pants (which I found at Marshalls) with the denim shirt (thanks, sis) and my cute floral flats.  I have also stocked up on new white t-shirts which go with everything.   I think I’ll try and save my workout clothes for my workouts!

Fun finds

Here are a few fun things that caught my eye while I was out and about this week.

New snack food at my local Costco:

Great storage basket at Winners:

Fun sandals by Boc at Marshall’s:

The colours of all these items caught my eye. I am proud to say that I didn’t buy any of them, but I am a little tempted to try that popcorn snack, and maybe those shoes…
