Oh Canada….family fashion

I know that Canada Day was so last week, but thought I would show you what I wore.  Please keep in mind that Canadians are pretty casual and low key compared to Americans when it comes to our country’s birthday.  It’s not that we don’t celebrate it, but we just don’t celebrate it like the Americans and sometimes I think we could take a page or two from their holiday celebration book 😉

We went out for dinner on July 1st and I overheard an American family remark that we were wearing Canadian shirts.  Besides another couple a few tables away, we were the only other ones dressed for the holiday.

Lastly, the men in my life wore Canada shirts from Old Navy and Joe Fresh

What did you wear to celebrate your holiday?  Hope it was a great day!!

Old Navy, New Grey

I have to admit that lately Old Navy is surprising me.  Everytime I go in there (which is often), I find cute tshirts, well fitting shorts and reasonably priced summer dresses, not to mention the great clothes for kids.

But this time, I think they know me, I mean really know me. This email from Old Navy arrived in my in box last week:

Old Navy Grey is the New Blue unnamed-1

and then a few days later, this one arrived:

unnamed

Hello ?  If this isn’t a sign that I need a pair of grey jeans, then I don’t know what is.  I guess I had better go shopping because apparently, there is a shade of grey for everyone 🙂

I love summer sales!

File this under “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stand It” or “Wow! I Love Summer Sales!”
Either way, I made a couple great finds this week and have to share!
First, strolling The Rack, I snagged these black gladiator-ish sandals from Cole Haan.

Then, not even looking for shoes, I saw these neutral/metallic Franco Sarto sandals and realized I actually DID need them! I mean, you can’t wear black sandals with everything, right?

Finally, doing a little summer shopping for my girls, I found this totally out-of-character crinkly shirt.

Bet I don’t have to tell you why it’s out of character…(see the title of our blog for a hint!)

Weekend Update

Today is Father’s Day – Happy Father’s Day to my husband and to my Dad.  I hope they both enjoy the day!

I’m not sure where the past two weeks have gone, but I know I haven’t posted a thing!

That said, a few things have changed around here, so I’ll give you a little update.

  • the weather – it is sunnier and warmer
  • my kids’ baseball season  is finished – 2 months is a short season!
  • a week ago, I was on a girls’ weekend – yeah!
  • school is over – a sudden surprising strike vote and it looks like the school year is over 2 weeks early 😦

A few weeks ago, I took an afternoon to myself to check out the shops.   J. Crew, Zara, The Bay, Aritizia, Gap, TopShop, etc, etc..  I was getting very disappointed the longer I shopped, because I wasn’t finding anything (well, anything I wanted or that fit well…).  The first and last store I went into was Old Navy and guess what?   There I found exactly what I needed; boyfriend pants and a neutral long cardigan.  They fit so well with my wardrobe; grey pants and a greige sweater.

Camo t-shirt, greige sweater and grey boyfriend pants – all from Old Navy

Even though, it’s summer, my clothes are still 50 shades of grey…but they seem so much brighter in the sun.

Pinned it and wore it

I saw this outfit on Pinterest and thought to myself….winner!  This is something I could easily wear day to day.   Then, I thought, how hard would this be to put together ?

Well, it was so easy!   I already had a pair of black jeggings from the Gap and a white tank.  I also had a pair of cognac brown boots that I had bought a couple years ago at DSW (love that store!).  I didn’t have a chambray shirt, so while I was wandering the mall on my own last week (a rare occurrence), I found this tunic style denim shirt at Old Navy.

The end result ?

Finally, after pinning so many pins, I finally put one to good use and I think I’ll do it again!

Stop Screaming at Me!!

As I was in the mall buying my child a new swim shirt, I couldn’t help but take pictures of the colourful tanks and hoodies that were hanging around Old Navy.Image

They were literally screaming, “Hello!?!  Do you see me?!  I am colourful!!  You are not!!

I was wearing a tired grey tshirt, grey cardigan, worn out grey animal print scarf and dark jeans.  The clothes were right to scream at me.  It was not a good look.

The shirt and scarf are now being donated. But I think I need to keep the grey cardigan…it might look good with a colourful tank underneath…..
