Black Friday Wish List

It’s that time of the year!  Major sale time!  It’s hard to believe that prices can be so rock bottom, isn’t it?

On Black Friday 2015, or was it Cyber Monday….I bought a rug from Rugs USA for about 70% less than the regular price.  That was an amazing deal and I still love the rug!

This year I don’t need a rug, but I’ve got my eye on a few things.

There are so many things to choose from!  I’ve also got my eye on some books, a few home decor items and a few things for the kids.

Will you be hitting up the sales this year?  Please let me know what you buy!

Joe & Tell

Another week and more groceries. Which means another browse around the Joe women’s clothing section at Superstore.

The department was packed with so many great things that I couldn’t just limit myself to one item this time.

So what did I find?

These booties came in both black and chestnut.  Wouldn’t they look great with boyfriend or skinny jeans?  The downside?  They are not leather, but they are only $39.

I ❤️ slip ons and this pair did not disappoint.  They were only $34!  It’s hard to tell but they are navy blue with little white flecks.  Could easily wear these with boyfriend or skinny jeans all season long.

Lastly…

Cigarette pants!  I noticed these while I was in France this summer and wrote about them here.  I apologize for the lighting – the fluorescent lights at Superstore don’t really lend themselves to great photos!  These pants are more straight than skinny and hit right about at the ankle.  A nice change from the everyday skinny jeans and only $34.

Could you see any of these items in your Fall wardrobe?  Let me know in the comments.

And that’s it for this week’s edition of Joe & Tell!

French Dressing for Fall

Bonjour!

Just last week I stopped into Marshalls and was surprised to find a high end designer promotion in store.  It was called the Red Carpet Event and it was showcasing all the top brands.  Of course, after my summer vacation I’ve still got French style on the brain, so I got a little caught up in finding all the French designers featured.

Here are a few things that I found:

Let’s start off with this Louis Vuitton wallet.  Darling, isn’t it?  It was priced around $199 which I thought was a relatively fair price for this piece. I have seen other designer wallets (Kate Spade and Coach) for similar prices, so this was inline with those brands.

Next up was this Givenchy bag.  Isn’t it beautiful?  Yes, it’s expensive, but I’m guessing it is probably less than if you had purchased it at Nordstrom or Givenchy themselves.  I’m not sure who would pay that much for a bag at Marshalls, but in case you are looking…

I would probably save this colour for Spring, but it is such a beautiful bag I might just carry it all year.

I had heard of Lanvin, but I wasn’t too familiar with the actual brand.  This is one of the first high fashion houses of France and it was founded way back in 1889!  This black quilted bag is such a classic and it’s a piece you could have for years and years.  I can’t remember the price, but I think it was about the same as the Givenchy bag above.

The Saint Laurent items also carried a hefty price tag. Those cute little booties are $700 and the bag was close to $2,000.  Wow.  I’m always surprised when Marshalls has such high priced items, but those for are looking….

A little lower down the price chain and you will find these Aigle boots.  Angle means eagle in French and these little rain booties would be a great addition to your closet for those rainy days.  As you will see they had a floral pattern, a leaf pattern and plain beige all for under $100.

Still in the shoe department I found these:

These animal print slip ons were over $500 and wouldn’t they pair well with your new Givenchy bag 😉

Oh, and if you have a really big budget, you might like these Celine flats in your closet:

img_6295

A few rows over, but still in the shoe department and I found this pair:

img_6298

I unfortunately forgot the name (oops), but they were a French brand.  Albeit a lower priced one as these brogues were only $70.  These could be fun with jeans or cigarette pants to dress up an outfit.  The blue colour was so rich and that bit of metal really caught my eye.

French dressing wouldn’t be complete without a hat or pair of sunglasses, so I found these:

The hat and glasses were all under $50 and by French brands.  Great accessories to add some French flavour to any outfit.

Lastly, the scent of a woman (did you ever see that movie?)…Ooh ahh!

Four different fragrances of Chloe all for $50.

With all these lovelies, you too can dress en française for Fall 🍁

C’est bon!

Joe & Tell

Most of the kids I know like show and tell.  What’s not to like about taking your favourite toy or book to school and telling everyone all about it?

So, with back to school upon us, I’m reminded of this tradition and thought I would start a show and tell of my own.

I frequently buy my groceries at Superstore and the good thing about that is….they also sell clothes, household goods and fun things. It’s not Target, but it’s the closest thing we’ve got!

Their house brand of clothing is called Joe Fresh and its carried in stores throughout Canada.  JC Penney used to carry the brand and there was a store in NYC, but it appears you can only order online in the US as of now. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thus, after today’s shop, Joe & Tell was born!  I’ll try and make this a regular feature and show you something on trend that I think you might like.

Today’s find is this olive green utility jacket.  It’s only $49 and only available in this colour.   I usually wear a small, but this small was still a little big, so I recommend sizing down.

This jacket style is still on trend.  It is such a great piece to wear now and transition into Fall.

What do you think?  Could you see this jacket in your Fall wardrobe? Please let me know in the comments!

5 things I always buy at Ikea

I haven’t been to Ikea in about six months and yet, within the past three weeks, I have shopped there three times.  Go figure.

Just like at Costco, there are a few staples that I usually buy at Ikea.  They are always in good supply and the price is always right!

Clockwise from top right:

  1. Toilet brush cleaner/holder – it’s only $1 and it gets the job done.  Enough said.
  2. Kitchen dish scrub brush – again it’s about $1, comes in 3 colours and lasts a pretty long time.
  3. Ribba frames – these vary in size and price, and come with a mat.  These frames are frequently used for gallery walls in many of the magazines I read.
  4. Roll of paper – found in the children’s section.  It’s about $5 and we use it for colouring, drawing, making signs, table runners, etc.
  5. Fantastisk napkins – they are fantastic.  Cost is about $3 and I usually buy the standard white, but they often have seasonal colours and a few patterned ones throughout the year.

Obviously, my shopping cart is filled with more than these five items anytime I go to my favourite Swedish home store.  Am I missing anything?  What do you buy when you go to Ikea?

$10 at Target

Well, I guess I should clarify this.  I spent 10 euros at Monoprix.   What’s Monoprix you ask?  Well, I had been told that Monoprix was the French version of Target.  It’s a French department store that is all over the country.  It looks like this:

IMG_5372

I recently returned from a trip to Europe and while I was there, I was more than excited to check out this chain.  But I have to say I was a little dismayed by the two stores I went into.  The store I visited in Paris was small, had a food market on the lower level and women’s clothes and accessories on the main floor.  The clothing section had some good deals, but it was a mess and I really didn’t see anything worth trying on.  #disappointed

The second store was much larger, but I had only a few minutes to get what I needed.  And what was that, you ask?

This:

IMG_5373.jpg

We had forgotten our nail tools at home, so I needed to get an extra set.  These two items totalled €10.  I’m not sure about you, but it seemed like a lot to me.

So, although I didn’t get to really experience the French Target, I got the feeling it did not have the deals and selection that the real Target has.  Did I mention I’m still sad that Target left Canada?

Out with old, in with the new

I bought my first pair of Hunters five and a half years ago.  At $150, it was a pretty large investment in rain boots.  A few friends already owned Hunters and sold me on the idea.  After owning less expensive boots that often cracked in less than a year, it wasn’t hard to convince me to buy up.

Enter my first pair of Hunters:

That’s how they look today. Comfy, slightly dirty and well worn.  So well worn in fact, that they cracked and the sole started to separate from the boot.  Wet feet.

You cannot live in this area without boots.  They are pretty much standard issue when you move to the city.

Thankfully, Hunters are in good supply here and today I found my new pair.  And they were on sale!!

Voila!  My 2nd pair of Hunters:

I’ve written about boots before – here and here.  Who doesn’t love all the options available now for rainy weather?!

If you need great wellies, then theses are the boots for you. With so many great colours, you will have a hard time choosing just one pair.

I’m glad it’s going to rain this weekend, because I can’t wait to wear my new boots!

Target Finds

A few weeks ago, just before my holiday I headed to Target.  If you haven’t heard, they are closing all the Canadian locations within the next few months and prices have been reduced to 40-60% of the original price. I have to say, I am more than disappointed that Target is leaving after two years. It is unfair (ok, maybe that’s a little personal) and it’s just too bad.  In my opinion, it was definitely bad planning on the company to expand so quickly with so many stores and so little stock in such a short period of time.

But, what’s done is done and all that is left to do is to hit the sales. So, when I entered the store, I couldn’t believe how stocked the shelves were.  I’m not sure where they were hiding all the merchandise, but it definitely wasn’t in any of the stores over the past couple years.

Who doesn’t need a plaid shirt?
IMG_7983
Denim and chambray shirts are always in style and there were plenty on the racks.
IMG_7984
Espradrilles or slip on runners? Floral, stripes and solids. Perfect for Spring.
IMG_7985
Colourful buckets and bins for organizing.
IMG_7986
Shine a light on it! So many great lamps.
IMG_7989
For the kitchen command centre, or in the mudroom, this chalkboard would be perfect.
IMG_7990
I have always loved these aluminum or brushed steel bar stools. Best price is at Target.
IMG_7991
Racks and racks of girls’ clothes, bathing suits and jackets in lots of sizes.
IMG_7992
Another cute chalkboard – this one was in the garden section.

So, I’m sad to report on this day that I didn’t buy much except for some small items from the dollar section.  I wish I had bought the acrylic ball lamps like this:

IMG_7987

Because when I went back last week, they were gone!   Fast forward a couple weeks and the shelves were pretty much empty.  In fact, they were selling the shelves! Yes, they were!

A few empty shelves won’t stop me from going back until they are closed.  The The Budget Babe just posted this all about the shirts you need to buy among other things from Target.

Here’s hoping a few of those shirts might just be at my store.  I’ll keep you posted.

Fun Graphic Shirts

Graphic tees have been fashionable for years now and while I don’t own many myself, I admire them greatly.  I’ve come across some that have made me smile. I should wear this shirt every morning:

Coffee First
Ok, But First Coffee

My sister found this one and I should probably wear it every few days:

nothing to wear
I have Nothing to Wear

No more babies in our household, but I thought it would make a cute gift:

Hello
Hello, I’m new here

I found this at Marshall’s and didn’t buy it.  But it’s cute and fun and the blue is a nice pop of colour:

Big Blue Heart
Big Blue Heart

I really like the arrows and the fact they are on a grey t-shirt, well…why not?

arrows easy

This one makes me laugh out loud:

harvard law just kidding
Harvard Law – just kidding

This shirt caught my eye, because some days you feel…

I think I’ll put some new t-shirts on my shopping list.  Will you?

Old Navy, New Grey

I have to admit that lately Old Navy is surprising me.  Everytime I go in there (which is often), I find cute tshirts, well fitting shorts and reasonably priced summer dresses, not to mention the great clothes for kids.

But this time, I think they know me, I mean really know me. This email from Old Navy arrived in my in box last week:

Old Navy Grey is the New Blue unnamed-1

and then a few days later, this one arrived:

unnamed

Hello ?  If this isn’t a sign that I need a pair of grey jeans, then I don’t know what is.  I guess I had better go shopping because apparently, there is a shade of grey for everyone 🙂
