Joe & Tell

If there’s one trend that seems to come back each Fall and Winter, it’s plaid. But plaid has a cousin and that cousin is buffalo check!  What’s not to love about either pattern when it shows so well in red and black?

So, here is my version of the classic show and tell using the items from Joe Fresh (Superstore or Loblaws).  They are completed stocked full with options (let’s call it updated plaid) and here is what I found in store last week:

These adorable slip on booties/slippers for babies and toddlers.  How cute!

This dress would look great with black tights or leggings and booties, wouldn’t it?

And if you didn’t wan to wear red and black plaid, you could carry it!

This bomber style jacket would be a fun way to add a little colour and style while keeping warm.

Lastly, these duck boots were under $50 and were very warm and comfortable.  I probably wouldn’t wear them in the rain, but they would be great for cold weather.

I have to admit I didn’t buy a thing!  But I could always go back for that tote and maybe the dress…and….more!

Joe & Tell

Another week and more groceries. Which means another browse around the Joe women’s clothing section at Superstore.

The department was packed with so many great things that I couldn’t just limit myself to one item this time.

So what did I find?

These booties came in both black and chestnut.  Wouldn’t they look great with boyfriend or skinny jeans?  The downside?  They are not leather, but they are only $39.

I ❤️ slip ons and this pair did not disappoint.  They were only $34!  It’s hard to tell but they are navy blue with little white flecks.  Could easily wear these with boyfriend or skinny jeans all season long.

Lastly…

Cigarette pants!  I noticed these while I was in France this summer and wrote about them here.  I apologize for the lighting – the fluorescent lights at Superstore don’t really lend themselves to great photos!  These pants are more straight than skinny and hit right about at the ankle.  A nice change from the everyday skinny jeans and only $34.

Could you see any of these items in your Fall wardrobe?  Let me know in the comments.

And that’s it for this week’s edition of Joe & Tell!

Joe & Tell

Most of the kids I know like show and tell.  What’s not to like about taking your favourite toy or book to school and telling everyone all about it?

So, with back to school upon us, I’m reminded of this tradition and thought I would start a show and tell of my own.

I frequently buy my groceries at Superstore and the good thing about that is….they also sell clothes, household goods and fun things. It’s not Target, but it’s the closest thing we’ve got!

Their house brand of clothing is called Joe Fresh and its carried in stores throughout Canada.  JC Penney used to carry the brand and there was a store in NYC, but it appears you can only order online in the US as of now. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thus, after today’s shop, Joe & Tell was born!  I’ll try and make this a regular feature and show you something on trend that I think you might like.

Today’s find is this olive green utility jacket.  It’s only $49 and only available in this colour.   I usually wear a small, but this small was still a little big, so I recommend sizing down.

This jacket style is still on trend.  It is such a great piece to wear now and transition into Fall.

What do you think?  Could you see this jacket in your Fall wardrobe? Please let me know in the comments!

New Year, New Clothes

The kids are back in school, I’ve semi-cleaned the house and needed groceries, so I headed to Superstore (Loblaws for those of you back East).  Problem is, that when you go to Superstore, you see Joe Fresh fashions right when you walk in the door.

Now, I don’t always buy from Joe Fresh, but I have been known to pick up the odd top, sweater, tank at a very good price point.  It isn’t always the best or will be a piece that you have for a long time, but Joe Fresh is usually  always on point for fashion trends and colours.

I have to admit I was surprised that the store was already full of fresh fashions for late Winter/early Spring.

Here’s a little peek at what I saw:

These shoes were under $20.  I tried them on.  They were not uncomfortable and would be a cute little flat to add a little camo to your day.

This top is part sweater, part sweatshirt.  I tried it on and it fit a little unconstructed which seems to be in style right now.  It was only $9.94 and in one of my fav colours…grey!

Ok, so if you don’t like grey, this red and black in the classic buffalo check would do nicely. I’m thinking it would be cute for the holiday season 2016.

Umm…these pants.  Part jogger, part sweatpants wanna be.  Either way, they were comfy and so well priced.  Picture them with a black of white top, a cute hoodie and fun runners (tennis shoes for you South of the border).

Bathings suits are here!!  Mix and match tops and bottoms while they still have your size.  All pieces around $20.

In case you don’t like the turquoise blue, there is navy and orange just around the corner.  Again, easy to wear and mix and match.

I saw orange and navy from the minute I hit this section.  Based on this, I’m guessing orange is a must have colour for Spring.

Softer shades of orange, floral and pink/peach all say Spring to me.

Before Winter is over, you might want to grab a pair of these Sorel look alike boots.  Reg $69 on sale for $59 and some styles were less.  I tried them on and they fit well!

Not a fashion item, but still a new item to me.  Natural soap made in Canada for only $1.25 per bar.  If you are trying to add more natural products to your daily regime, try this soap in one of the many flavours.

I am feeling a little more inspired with my wardrobe now and I’m looking forward to the sales and Spring fashions to come over the next month!

Friday’s Fun Finds

When you just pop in to grab a few groceries, you don’t always expect to find fun clothes and cool home accessories.  But that is what happens when you go to Superstore or Loblaw’s as it is known back East.  When these stores started selling Joe Fresh  alongside the fruit and veggies, the grocery shopping game changed.

Here’s what I found last week:

My kids love chips and salsa and veggies with dip.  These little bowls would be the perfect solution for snack time.

IMG_1684

My love of all things plaid and a cabin in the woods is summed up with this great basket and it was less than $20!

IMG_1682

The chevron print on this glass water bottle caught my eye and it’s such a cool looking bottle it might inspire everyone to drink more water.

IMG_1685

This jacket was in the athletic section and was just the prettiest shade of purple and mauve.  I’ve bought some of their workout gear before and the quality is pretty good for the price.

IMG_1681

Of course this grey puffer coat caught my eye. I bought the grey puffer vest and love it!

Lastly, this guy came home with me, along with my groceries.  Isn’t that why I originally went to Superstore?

Have a great Fall weekend!

Friday’s Fun Finds – Home Edition

Now that the kids are back in school, I have a bit more time to myself.  So, with this time, I have hit a few of the local and not so local stores.  Here’s what I have found on my travels:

fox homesense winners
What does the fox say? He says, “buy me!” This adorable print was at Winners Homesense and I thought it would be so great in a cabin.
IMG_1604
A squirrel with antlers ? Again, another cute print at Winners Homesense and if I had a cabin, I would have bought it.
IMG_0899
These mostly nautical hooks were in a cute little home store in Whistler. They would be fun in a boy’s room, in a cabin by the lake or in your mudroom.
IMG_1441
I should have bought these sticky notes that I found while getting groceries at Superstore.
IMG_0901
Fishes, fishes everywhere! Love the colours in this tea towel. Great gift for the fisherman in the family! Should have bought it for my Dad.
IMG_1591
Lastly, I saw this magainze at the grocery store checkout and thought it was my last gasp at Summer. Something nice to look at when the weather is cold, wet and grey.

Have a great weekend and maybe you will discover some fun finds yourself!

Fun Finds – Home edition

Since the demise of Target here in Canada, I’ve had to look elsewhere for my home decor inspiration.  I’m always heading back to Superstore (Loblaw’s), Winners, HomeSense and Marshall’s and here are a few of my recent finds:

These towels say it all!

Where could I put this great Union Jack pillow?

IMG_8418
Outdoor dishes and glasses in my favourite shade of blue and those fake topiaries are pretty cute, too!

IMG_8370
These woven baskets felt really sturdy and came in several different shapes and sizes.

This fun rug would be great at the front door during Summer.

I have a friend who would like to live in Paris and would love this pillow.

These cute little storage drawers would be perfect for all the small lego accessories and mini figs in our house.
Hope you enjoyed my roundup of fun finds – home edition.

It’s Everywhere!

Plaid.  It’s everywhere and I love it!

Maybe it’s my Irish/English/Scottish heritage that draws me to it.   Maybe it signifies Fall, warm clothes and coziness.   Maybe it’s because it is being featured everywhere in magazines and lifestyle TV for both your wardrobe and your home.

I’m not sure exactly what it is, but this year I am especially loving plaid. So much so, that I just bought this:

and this:

IMG_5774

Both of these items are from Superstore – Joe Fresh.  The shirt fits great and surprise, it’s not grey!  Ok, well, there is a little grey stripe in the pattern, but it’s not entirely grey.  What surprised me was they were both predominantly red, which is so unlike me!

I wanted to use some plaid in the house to make things feel like Fall and I saw this sheet set, also at Superstore:

IMG_6771

They werent quite the right colours, so I didn’t buy it.  But I’m on the hunt for a plaid blanket for the family room in greys and blues – wish me luck.

Lastly, this is a bold move, but I saw this wallpaper and thought how fun would this be in a powder room or a rustic cottage bathroom:

So that’s my plaid update this week.   Hope you have put some plaid into your life, too!

Every week…

I’ve been following the good life and really enjoying her Monday Listicles.  So, this week’s list got me thinking.  I have a family of 4; 2 adults, 2 kids under 7 and 1 dog.  We enjoy food and drink, who doesn’t?  But with the amount of groceries that I buy, you would think there are more than 4 of us eating regularly at our house.

I do a big shop at Costco about every 10 days and I supplement that with a weekly trip (or two, or three) to Safeway or Superstore and the local produce market.

So why do I need to shop so frequently?  Well, here are the top 10 things that we consume  at break neck speed:

  1. Cream – for coffee and we drink a fair amount of coffee.
  2. Yogurt – my youngest and I are pretty much addicted to plain Greek yogurt with honey and berries.
  3. Bread – we don’t eat a lot of sandwiches, but for some reason, we always need more bread.
  4. Fresh fruit – especially strawberries, blackberries and blueberries at this time of year.
  5. Veggies – broccoli, baby carrots and kale are always favourites.
  6. Que Pasa Organic Nacho chips – we love these chips as nachos, or plain with either salsa or hummus.
  7. Beer and wine – because, just because it goes so well with everything.
  8. Eggs – Between eating them for breakfast and baking muffins, we seem to go through a dozen eggs in less than a week.  I don’t think Dr. Oz would be too happy with us on this.
  9. Fresh fish – Dr. Oz would be happy that we eat salmon and other fish a couple times each week.
  10. Dog treats – We are in training mode with our puppy and she is sure getting a lot of treats these days.

I love making lists; for groceries, what to do, home repairs, summer ideas, where to go, etc.  I’ll post more lists in the future as it’s fun to put them out there.

I wonder what my sister is buying this week ?
